Project Overview

Atlantis Contracting successfully delivered the supply and installation of PROMATECT®-H passive fire protection systems for the Red Sea Global Shura Island Infrastructure Development, one of Saudi Arabia's major Vision 2030 giga-projects.

The scope focused on fire-rated shaft closures and fire compartmentation, protecting vertical and horizontal MEP shafts, service risers, and critical building interfaces. PROMATECT®-H calcium silicate fire protection boards were used to establish and maintain fire-rated barriers, helping prevent the spread of fire, smoke, and hot gases between building compartments.

The works were executed across multiple building and infrastructure zones, with shaft configurations and fire-resistance requirements tailored to the specific project conditions and approved fire protection designs.

Scope of Works

1. Supply and installation of PROMATECT®-H fire protection boards.
2. Construction of fire-rated MEP shaft enclosures.
3. Protection of vertical service shafts and risers.
4. Fire-rated closures around electrical, mechanical, and plumbing service zones.
5. Installation of galvanized steel supporting frameworks.
6. Firestopping of board joints and interfaces.
7. Sealing of service penetrations through fire-rated shaft walls.
8. Coordination with structural, MEP, and fit-out works.
9. Inspection, quality control, and project documentation.

Key Challenges & Solutions

Complex Shaft Configurations

Different building typologies and service requirements resulted in varying shaft dimensions, interfaces, and fire-resistance requirements.

Atlantis developed installation details according to the specific shaft configuration and approved fire-rated system requirements, including customized galvanized steel supporting frameworks.

Multi-Trade Coordination

MEP, civil, and fit-out activities were progressing concurrently, requiring shaft closures to be carefully coordinated with other trades.

A formal shaft readiness process was implemented to ensure MEP services were completed and approved before shaft closures commenced. Installation teams were then redirected to ready zones to maintain project progress.
